UIC Acting Coaching was built on a simple premise: the best acting coaches are the ones still doing the work. Not teaching from memory — teaching from this week's rehearsal room, this season's auditions.
Our founder Calvin Leon Smith holds an MFA from Juilliard, two Broadway principal credits (Fat Ham, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club), an Obie Award, has worked with Barry Jenkins, Joel Edgerton, Dave Simon and was hand-picked by Anna Deavere Smith to teach acting for her Pipeline Girls Project. Every coach on the UIC roster is a working professional — it's the entire model.
